Dancing is powerful. You can dance with any kind of emotion in mind. You can dance for one, or for thousands. Violence against women happens far too often, even during one of the most vulnerable times in our lives: childbirth. During Valentine's Day Week, Momma Trauma Blog will be celebrating One Billion Rising's global event, V-Day, to raise awareness of Violence Against Women, especially during the perinatal period. We will Rise! We will Dance! We will Shout to the mountain tops! Above all: We Refuse to be Abused! V-Day is Feb. 14 (yes, actually ON Valentine’s Day!). During the week of Feb. 11 - 17, Momma Trauma will upload blogs, photos, hopefully videos and more to stand against Violence Against Women. Join us on facebook, or www.MommaTraumaBlog.com. V-Day heavily relies on performing arts to reach out to communities across the globe. It would be great if we could rise up and submit photos or videos of dancing, skits, performances or other “movement” to shout about perinatal violence and/or birth trauma. If you can, use our catch phrase "We refuse to be abused" and an image of Momma Trauma’s logo and/or the V-Day logo in your submission! Stand with us, feel empowered. Momma Trauma needs your submissions of:
Get your kids and family involved! (We love watching kids dance!) Are you a blogger or professional? Join us as a guest blogger and we’ll be sure to add your blog information to the post. If you need some musical inspiration to dance to for your videos, visit One Billion Rising’s Music to Rise To page. I hope you will join us! We need to stop violence against women in all fashions! Please send submissions to Facebook or E-mail.

Go straight to the petition HERE! Current United States federal legislation allows certain breastfeeding mothers the right to breastfeed or pump breast milk for their children in certain locations. Section 7(r) of the Fair Labor Standards Act, which was recently amended by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in 2011, states that employers must provide a non-bathroom, private and intrusion free space for nursing moms to pump breast milk, along with reasonable break time to do so for the first year of a child's life. Although this piece of legislation is a great first step, many mothers are not protected and therefore stop breastfeeding early due to lack of support. This legislation ONLY includes mothers who are paid hourly and work for a company of 50 people or more. Employers with less than 50 people who may find themselves dealing with hardships due to mothers breastfeeding or pumping breast milk throughout the day are exempt from this legislation. It also does NOT include students. There is federal legislation in place to allow mothers the right to breastfeed at any federal location where she is permitted, and many states have state laws allowing public breastfeeding, as well. Sadly, those laws don't consider pumping breast milk as breastfeeding, even though it is sometimes a part of breastfeeding. Even with these public breastfeeding laws in place, there remains a lot of discrimination against breastfeeding mothers across the nation. Breastfeeding is a human right, and should be encouraged in all environments. Breast milk contains all the nutrients and calories a baby needs, and even contains some things which formula does not. As the child gets older, breastfeeding remains the best nutritional and immunological choice. It is also proven that breastfeeding mothers miss less work or school as her and child are sick less often than their counterparts. You can find more great benefits and information here on womenshealth.gov. It is time to create some major change for ourselves, our children, our neighbors and our world. YOU can help by signing our petition and sharing it everyone you know. Breastfeeding is normal for both child and mother. It has amazing health benefits, can save a lot of money for everyone from the family involved to the country as a whole and a whole slew of other benefits. We need 100,000 in 30 days starting NOW! Can we do it? I think we can. It's too important not to sign and share. Click on the text below to be redirected to our petition! We petition the Obama administration to: What are your thoughts on this petition? Have you ever been discriminated against for breastfeeding or pumping? Add your thoughts in the comments below!
